I can speak on Mortars! The Koreans have their own 120mm mortar offering in Skyfall that they are pairing with K9 for IFM. One day, I promise, I'll talk about it!
CPSP is the big one, though I expect them to bring up other areas as well. Chunmoo they've accepted there was a fundemental mismatch of wants. No convincing there. To far apart. The rest is hypothetically possible.
If we buy Korean submarines, there will be some relationship management to do with Europe, specifically Germany. We will probably buy the RCH-155, so that will help. Air defence systems like IRIS-T and SkyRanger would also align us with what Euro NATO countries are buying and help the Germans to forgive us.
The LAV is GDLS product, built in London, Ontario. I think there’s zero chance a Canadian government would outsource it.
We lobbied hard to get into SAFE, and it’s important that we stay in it, so it wouldn’t be in our best interests to buy everything from Korea.
This brings up something that I have been wondering about. Regarding these highly competitive bids, how much of a concern is there for a backlash (maybe too strong a word here) from the losing bid.
Always a concern. This is a major contract, and nothing to scoff at. Certainly political considerations will be given especially when the project is being framed as the anchor of a massive Economic and Sevurity agreement.
Agree on buying all those European air defense systems. But in terms of getting the RCH-155 I disagree, lol3 I've seen videos of those things firing ... way too much recoil, which sound like it takes a lot more to maintain it. The K9A3 Thunder sounds like a more safer and more STABLE bet.
Fun fact most never reported: the requirement for Fire on the Move actually got downgraded to a want. I think even they realized it was a bit to on the nose.
Another requirement is that the candidate be capable of speeds up to 70 kph which disqualifies all the tracked candidates and places the RCH155 in the lead.
The RCH 155 was the winning bid in Switzerland on the GDLS Europe Piranha platform. GDLS Canada LAV platform is related to the Piranha. Very very likely RCH 155 will be chosen with work done at GDLS facility in London ON.
Cancelling the HiMARS, not going to happen. It's pretty well a done deal, plus the fact the HiMARS is a better system then the K239 and it meets Canadian requirements - the KK239 does not.
Now that the US is back to threatening to possibly use military force to annex Greenland, how long to that mind set returns to the 51st state rhetoric toward Canada? Perhaps this should also push toward the faster delivery timelines of the KSS-III and all the in Canada built, non-US weapons systems production Hanwa/Hyundai are offering. Seems even more relevant for our interests than ever with Trumps seemingly dementia driven decisions.
Yes very def a lot of other defence projects for the koreans to talk about…particularly to DND who seems to have a few in Ottawa who seem to like to write contracts aimed at sole sourcing. I would add to what Exotic Snake has written below …
-81 & 120 mm mortar options in addition to the K9/10’s
-Perhaps the KSAAM system
-longer term perhaps talking about the KF21 plans with it very nice two engines
Someone elsewhere mentioned that with the shutdown of Crofton on Vancouver Island, it might make a nice place to base all the new subs, basically a outstation of Esquimalt.

The Korean delegation shouldn't just limit the trip to the CPSP program. They should also bid on other projects such as:
. K9A3 Thunder for the self propelled howitzer project.
. Hyundai Rotem N-WAV & AS21 Redback to replace the LAV 6.0.
. Hyundai Rotem K3 MBT to replace the Leopard 2.
. KAI T-50 and/or FA-50 for the future fighter training aircraft program.
. Attempt another bid to convince the government to cancel the HIMARS acquisition and go for the K239 Chunmoo.

The Canadian requirements released so far indicate a need to fire on the move, something only the RCH can do.

Well personally, I wouldn't trust or even get in a vehicle (RCH-155) that moves a lot from recoIil when it fires ... even if my life depended on it!!!
