I think Canadians are more confident than economic observers give us credit for. The political pundits all seem to be salivating to be the first to see a downturn in Canadian support for Carney’s DIS and defence spending. Because they’ve seen how Canadians have ignored defence in the recent past, they are certain that support for Canada’s sovereignty won’t be sustained, that with Trump gone, we’ll roll back to past behaviour. They want to be the first to say “I told you so!”. If the envisioned energy grid comes to fruition, and the jobs and then the industry and commerce follows as it could, Canada will evolve into that nation our forefathers imagined.

And if he succeeds, will they hang their heads in shame, never to contribute publicly on such subjects again?

A bit of a self-serving poll from this newly-formed association. As Austin Powers said, "I want a toilet made out of solid gold, but it's just not in the cards, is it?". Most Canadians aren't well-informed enough about our defence industry capabilities to know what is realistic and what is just pie-in-the-sky.

Yeah, this is a real problem. Not a lack of will or interest, but a woeful lack of any way for most Canadians to get in depth insights and valid analysis of Canadian military matters, from CAF, DND, and DIS.

But where there's a will, there's a way. With the increasing interest in all things sovereignty and defense related, I suspect the big news organization are going to be on the hunt for better quality content on the subject, and I know there are an increasing number of knowledgeable subject experts like Noah out there to write articles and be interviewed. The majority of people won't go beyond a headline, but they will turn to the knowledge sponge they know, and will rely on their opinion. We need to make sure all the news junkies out there are getting better information, so real information starts spreading into public discourse. It's been superficial pap for a long time, but times do change...
