Carney to make Submarine announcement today, TKMS and Hanwha downselected.
Canada has downselected CPSP to two suppliers: TKMS and Hanwha Ocean, Mark Carney will announce today. This choice has been in the works for a while, and aims to speed up the contracting process for the project.
Prime Minister Carney will make this announcement when visiting TKMS submarine facility in Kiel. Many of you will remember that I reported we would hear news in the coming weeks. Here it is lol.
TKMS and Hanwha were deemed the only viable suppliers left in the competition, and there are rumors that the Prime Minister will officially endorse a contract for this year, three years ahead of schedule.
Mark Carney will also be visiting South Korea in October, where he will visit Hanwha’s yards to inspect the KSS-III in person. He is also expected to discuss other procurement opportunities then.

The 212CD is only 73m long and 2800 tonnes submerged and yes that is the, size being offered to Canada. This is not large enough for our needs nor to safely surface through ice in emergencies. Clearly the only real option for Canadas needs is the KSS-III Batch II. This is either a plot at getting a better deal from Hanwa or another reason to postpone signing a contract requiring money spent
Fingers crossed
