Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Des Groseilliers successfully completed Exercise ARCTIC GHOST alongside His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Robert Hampton Gray and partners from the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Exercise ARCTIC GHOST is a multi-day, Canadian Coast Guard (CCG)-led security operation that enhances awareness of activity in Canada’s Arctic waters through a sustained on-water presence and coordinated surveillance activities with northern partners. The exercise supports the CCG’s security-related authorities under the Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, and contributes to Canada’s ability to monitor, protect and respond to activity in remote Northern locations.
Between September 15 and 19, 2026, partners conducted a series of training scenarios in the vicinity of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. Activities included joint security patrols, simulated searches for suspicious vessels operating in Canadian waters, and the simulated interception of illegal vessels presenting a security threat to Canada. Exercise ARCTIC GHOST demonstrated the ability of participating organizations to operate together effectively in Canada’s challenging Arctic environment, while strengthening whole-of-government coordination, information sharing, and operational readiness.
Through its enduring presence and operations in Canada’s Arctic waters, the CCG reinforces Canada’s well-established sovereignty and security in the North. Its operations support Northern communities, deliver important services, and advance broader Government of Canada objectives in the Arctic.
