DND Provides Update On The Cormorant Mid-Life Upgrade Project
Project Update

Since we've had multiple Cormorant questions in the Q&A the last few weeks, I thought it would be worthwhile to post this small update on the Cormorant Mid-Life Upgrade that was put to press today.
The DND provided the following images and statement confirming first flight of the newly upgraded CH-149:
Yesterday, the first CH-149 modified under the Cormorant Midlife Upgrade Project completed its first flight, bringing us closer to delivering a modernized Search And Rescue helicopter for the RCAF later in 2027

They should be purchasing more of these choppers to replace the abysmal Cyclones. Final assembly by IMP instead of giving more money to American companies and workers.
Back to the future. Chrétien should NEVER have stuck his nose into the chopper project. We had an opportunity to acquire one platform that would absolutely meet the requirements of both SAR and ASW. One of the best in operating in foul weather. For some reason a 3rd engine made it a Cadillac. As if the guys and gals who risk their lives to save YOURS don’t deserve the absolute best. Same for those who fly off the back of frigates in high sea states. I’d still go for a common fleet. Chuck the Cyclone. We should have funded the development of a future made in Canada SAR/ASW helo years ago.
