I think we’re coming full circle to reaffirming our order for up to 88 f35s and adding 60ish Gripens to the mix with GCAP in our back pocket. We’ll see. I suspect the U.S. has some more tariffs to throw our way before this is all said and done. Brad….If they could get the licence to manufacture the f414-39E that would be a significant step towards a Gripen order. I can’t remember but I think India is after domestic manufacturing for this engine family for their indigenous fighter program. Is this a possibility for us? I really don’t know. Not sure the demand for the Gripen version of the engine warrants standing up a manufacturing hub here. Maybe if the Ukrainian order gets solidified and some South American orders for the Gripen show up. And, of course, the big fat elephant in the room….Humpty Trumpty. Will he have a big fall? Let’s hope so.
You know it sounds great but… the absolute destruction the US is rendering against our nation will continue. Let me guess, we adopt a mixed fleet and out of the heavens, bam, US ITAR blocks any use of these engines for Gripen.
Weaponizing ITAR in that manner would crater the US defence export industry. Why would any country buy from them when they have proven that at any time they are prepared to withdraw sales/support.
That said, they really don’t think things through so who knows.

Since Magellan is authorized to maintain and refurbish these engines, is there the possibility that they could get the licence to build them as well?
