GIT Coatings to expand production with federal investment in Canada’s defence sector

New equipment will help the Dartmouth company expand production and strengthen Canada’s defence supply chains

Canada is rebuilding and reinvesting in its defence industrial base so Canadian companies can strengthen national supply chains while creating good jobs here at home.
Today, Braedon Clark, Member of Parliament for Sackville-Bedford-Preston, announced a repayable contribution to GIT Coatings Inc. to help the company expand production of its new marine coating products for the defence and security sector ($737,500).
This investment will help GIT Coatings purchase and install a new production mixer needed for the company’s latest product offering, an icebreaking hull coating primarily for defence and security vessels. It will also help the company access specialized expertise to expand its presence in the defence and security markets.
Today’s announcement reflects the Government of Canada’s commitment to helping Canadian companies play a key role in building a resilient and sovereign supply chain for Canada’s marine and defence sectors.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

GIT Coatings Inc. develops marine vessel coating technologies for hulls and propellers, including products designed to reduce friction, biofouling, dry dock time and environmental impacts from its location in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The project announced today will support the purchase and installation of new mixer equipment, along with related subcontracting, consulting and sector-focused business development activities, and is expected to create five jobs.
ACOA funding is provided through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program.
Atlantic Canada is home to more than 200 defence firms and nearly 10,000 direct aerospace and defence jobs, representing about 20 percent of Canada’s defence workforce.
