Well cudos to the organizers. They succeeded where the veterans of WW2 were ignored. A monument to that struggle was to go up at the end of Sparkes St, I believe, but the puck was ragged for decades. Even the history of WW2 was defunded, our politicians satisfied that our story would be told by Hollywood to the satisfaction of our historians and the veterans who returned. So congrats to the Afghan vets. Our memories of WW2 will depend on the legacy of the works of the likes of Tim Cook, taken from us too soon.

I agree Canadian Forces sacrifices in all conflicts should be memorialized by these monuments including WW2. My father served in the RCAF overseas during this war, with his brother in the RCAF as well, two brothers in law in the RCN and another in the Canadian merchant marine.

Regarding the Afghanistan monument, does it incorporate the plaques honouring fallen personnel repatriated from there?
