I was at an event last night where one of the presenters worked for the CNSC and talked a bit about the details behind the BWRX-300 small modular reactor. The push behind the design is to make it a simplified as possible while also being safe to operate. They said it would generate between 200-300MW. mostly still in the design stages still and need to get approval from the regulatory bodies. They're trying to move away from government-designed to Private Sector investment. They're going to have to enrich the uranium to 5% though, so no more shoveling straight U-238 into the reactor.
A little off the reactor subject but I hope Chalk River renews its previous world dominance in medical isotopes.
