This is great. I agree with you about getting in early with new emerging economies. I wonder if there’s any potential in Africa. I’m thinking of how USAID has been terminated and how Canada could step up there. Maybe do a better job.
I am fairly critical on the current foreign aid system. However there is room to do good while also having a wider benefit to Canada. We won't be an infrastructure giant like China in this regard, however understanding our strengths, and what we could offer globally is the first step to being a more active player to the world.

I’m not sure what we can do for foreign aid, but I remember our armed forces built schools and more during the Afghanistan reconstruction. Anything that aims to create independence and self-sufficiency for a community or nation showing potential, right? Mutual benefits down the road, including future economic allies. My thinking anyway. Perhaps my view is a little rosy.
