I want the South Korean subs. We need a big stick up in the Artic. The VLS vertical launch system can launch from under water cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and Anti ship missiles and all the munitions can be gotten by South Korea. Their just as good as US. South Korea can also sell us a whole brigade of tracked heavy artillery. If we buy them they'll be in Canada in a month or two. We can get our first submarine by 2031. Their going to help us set up our own submarine building capability. We can build our last 4 subs in Canada. To many positives. I'll be very angry if we don't get the Korean subs.

Like others I am sure….I am left wondering if this is an additional crutch for the Gov’t to build the case for selecting the Korean boats over TKMS.

Well TKMS might be able to go toe-to-toe with Hanwha in terms of industrial off-sets, but this visit by the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho is something they can't match.

If TKMS offered same, the RCN wouldn't have refused. The question is why they didn't.

Because there is no operational 212CD in existence. It's still just a paper concept just starting production with no trials done to prove it viable for Canada. IMO that alone should have eliminated it as a competitor. The risks with choosing it with the costs to fix any design deficiencies on a new design are too high. With the KSS-III Batch ll you are only adding 4 vls cells and switching to lithium batteries that would be the concern over their Batch l, while one is already actually in the water doing tests. With the 212CD everything is new and untested while not yet even built.

So what are we talking about then - why're folks giving Hanwha so much beef when at least their product is real and is currently voyaging to Canada as we type here.

Didn't TKMS state Norway/Germany were already using the 212CD and they could also ensure interoperability with both nations' Navy? - or why state that confidently if their sub is still just in draft mode?

I believe they've started some construction, but like our RCD as the first is built changes will be made during construction as problems and solutions arise. It's a paper submarine until a proven final result is actually built and tested for operations. Typically Canada does not usually include paper solutions in their competitions. With exceptions lately for the Type-26 and now this. IMO we should have just picked KSS-III Batch II and been finalizing a contract already. But politics will play a role here apparently.
