I know I get hung up on ship classifications, but perhaps we need to reframe our thinking for each service as finding a balance of high-capability Tier I combatants (Leopard/F-35/RCD), more affordable Tier II combatants (MEDCAV/Gripen/CDC), and entry-level trainers (LUV/Hawk replacement (TA-50 or T-7?)/FASST-V). I think these all have a place in the Canadian defense ecosystem.

Stg if they don’t choose Tribal Class as naming convention for CPSP they’ve totally lost aura. Imagine HMCS Haida being reincarnated as an Attack Sub becoming the most lethal warship in the RCN.

The fact that the Cheongung-II (KM-SAM Block II) has proven in recent weeks to be very effective in a high end conflict war zone and that South Korea has offered that facilities to be built in Canada to produce and maintain other Korean systems proposed for the Canadian military (ex. KSS-III Batch II submarines & K9 Thunder.), it's not entirely farfetched that the current Cheongung-II (KM-SAM Block II) and possibly future Block III variant can serve as part of the mid-range air defence portion of the GBAD project!!!

Orcas will be a smidge bigger than the current ones, as they are constrained for space in most of the Naval harbours.

CDC can't be to much like a Frigate, or at some point they will eat the RCD lunch with a future government looking to save money.

At least 1 more JSS to cover for one going into refit.

Hangers here in Canada don't necessarily need to be hardened. But abled to be closed, fire and weather proof. A hanger that is closed and made fairly strongly and fireproof will defeat most FPV drones.

The Orca replacement just got the official name FASST-V. I checked the 2017 national defence committee report on naval readiness. They listed those eight training vessels alongside the Halifax frigates as key to fleet operations. Years later they remain unfunded while Budget 2025 funnels cash elsewhere. The 2026 fleet plan had better change that. https://www.ourcommons.ca/Content/Committee/421/NDDN/Reports/RP9031883/nddnrp06/nddnrp06-e.pdf

This website says that the GS rifle will be designated C25 and the FS C26. They also have some info on the general type of suppressor and optic to be used, but I'm not sure how official this is:

C25/C26 naming convention also in this tweet; again not sure how reliable the source is:
