Re: potential TAPV uses, have the National Shipbuilding Strategy naval architects considered using them as ballast?

Re: TAPV ... Seeing as I've been summoned, a couple of thoughts.

For all the issues with the fleet, I will say 1 advantage has been to give A Res Cavalry units experience with a modern, armoured fighting vehicle. The access to modern gunnery systems, & attraction of an AFV has heen a boon to our units. But...

1. Regarding the long list of issues... it is generally accurate.

2. They were designed for Afghanistan, to replace the RG-31 in the Recce (Tactical Security) & ... "Light Infantry" roles. I mean, Light Inf battalions were generating OMLTs & rolling around in RG-31s (or re-rolling to Mech Inf for the BG)... So that must be the permanent role for them, right? Suffice to say the concepts for TAPV did not survive the end of Afghanistan... & Arguably, I'm not sure TAPV would've been great in Afghanistan.

3. The actual distribution sent many TAPVs to the A Res Cavalry regiments. This was never intended, & never supportable with the contracted logistics soultions. Even with a good ISS structure, A Res is not currently structured to maintain TAPVs.

4. Add to that the fact that all the electronics inside are butting into obsolescence issues... & sustainment will get worse.

5. The platform, for the weight, lacks flexibility & payload capacity. A lot of that is geometric - the layout of the vehicle greatly restricts what you can build into it.

I have indeed proposed an alternative platform to the TAPV - a FOV based on Roshel Senator would be lighter, more deployable & more sustainable (especially for A Res). For the cost of fixing up/modifying a TAPV into a new role, we should be able to buy a Roshel Senator with a more optimized integration to start with. The only real disadvantage of this approach is a lower protection level.... Compared to those TAPVs that actually have Add on Armour installed.
