OTTAWA, Ontario, Sept. 9, 2026 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) Canada is committing $11.7M CAD towards Avalon Holographics, a Canadian leader in the design and manufacturing of holographic display technologies for defence, industrial design and medical applications.
Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Avalon Holographics has collaborated with Lockheed Martin Canada since 2020. Building on this successful relationship, the commitment includes a new $5.6M CAD contract, following an initial $6.1M CAD Phase 1 investment, and will support the continued growth of high-skilled jobs and innovation in St. John’s and Edmonton.
This investment helps Lockheed Martin Canada fulfill its economic impact commitments associated with the River-class destroyer program and the Victoria-class Submarine Command and Control System contract, under the Industrial and Technological Benefits policy.
WHY IT MATTERS
This investment supports the advancement of Avalon’s groundbreaking true 3D holographic displays. The first of their kind in the world, these technologies bring digital models into the real-world without glasses or headsets, allowing users to better understand complex information and make faster, more accurate decisions. In defence applications, these innovative technologies enhance training, simulation, and mission planning capabilities while improving situational awareness and enabling a deeper understanding of complex operational environments and systems.
Since 2020, Lockheed Martin Canada’s partnership with Avalon has helped progress its core holographic capabilities and accelerate the company’s transition from early-stage development to commercial deployment, supported by installation of an Avalon display at Lockheed Martin’s Center for Innovation, The Lighthouse.
The renewed partnership and continued investment signal strong validation of Avalon’s technology and will help to fund table-top prototypes and to advance large-scale flat-panel lightfield displays.
Primary development for these projects will take place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and Edmonton, Alberta, and will support high-skilled jobs in engineering, software and manufacturing while driving Canadian innovation and sovereign capabilities.

Over the past 5 years, Lockheed Martin Canada has contributed a total of $3.6B CAD of value added to Canada’s gross domestic product and supported an average of 4,561 jobs annually.
