Acquisition expands delivery of Canadian sovereign solutions, deepens Canadian expertise, and builds resilience across the defence supply chain
OTTAWA, Ontario. Oct 26, 2026 - Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today completed its acquisition of Ultra Maritime, a global defence company specializing in advanced undersea warfare and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities for allied naval forces. The company develops and delivers mission-critical systems including sonar technologies, sonobuoys, torpedo defence systems, radar solutions, and autonomous maritime sensing platforms.
“Securing the undersea domain starts with giving sailors the tools and confidence to find, track and deter threats that put ships and crews at risk,” said Stephanie C. Hill, president, Rotary and Mission Systems at Lockheed Martin. “This is more than an acquisition – it’s a commitment to unite the best of our technology, capability and people to meet our partners’ urgent and growing demand for undersea warfare capability worldwide.”
Ultra Maritime’s international footprint and portfolio of ASW products, such as its sonobuoys, towed sonar arrays and hull mounted sonar product lines, will complement and expand Lockheed Martin’s ability to offer sonar solutions across next-gen maritime platforms.
In Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Ultra Maritime employs approximately 400 people dedicated to advancing undersea defence through innovative sonar technologies. Its portfolio includes Canadian-designed G-size sonobuoys, uniquely miniaturized solutions that detect and localize submarines and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and recognized as the only products of their kind available worldwide. In addition, Ultra Maritime’s advanced towed acoustic arrays equip naval vessels with active and passive sonar technology to identify torpedo threats and enhance underwater surveillance, delivering critical situational awareness for maritime operations.
“Ultra Maritime’s Canadian line of business is a towed array centre of excellence—their globally deployed arrays are entirely developed and built in Canada,” said Kristen Leroux, Vice President and Regional Executive for Lockheed Martin Canada & Latin America. “Much like Lockheed Martin Canada, and our Canadian-built CMS 330 combat management system, this stems from a longstanding legacy of Canadian engineering and manufacturing excellence. By bringing together our complementary strengths, we will expand delivery of Canadian sovereign solutions, deepen Canadian expertise, and build resilience across our defence supply chain.”
The Ultra Maritime Canada business will expand Lockheed Martin Canada’s workforce.
