MDA SPACE SELECTED BY MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC FOR NEXT-GENERATION DEFENCE COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE PROGRAM
Press Release + Noah Note

Multiple contracts for next-generation digital payload and other subsystems in the UK and in Montréal for the GEO satellite series supporting operations of the Japanese government.
Toronto, ON (June 25, 2026) — MDA Space Ltd. (TSX:MDA) (NYSE:MDA), a trusted mission partner to the rapidly expanding global space industry, has been selected by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) to design and manufacture the digital payload, antennas and various subsystems for the next-generation defence communications satellite program ordered by the Japan Ministry of Defense. This satellite program will replace DSN-2, also known as Kirameki-2, in geostationary orbit.
MDA Space in the UK will support the core technology for the advanced, anti-jamming, resilient multi-beam payload with digital beamforming that can be dynamically reconfigured in orbit. The MDA Space facility in Montréal will manufacture and test the advanced antenna solutions, including the analog repeater before shipping to Japan, where the assembly, integration and testing will be performed by Mitsubishi Electric.
The satellite will also be supported by MDA Space’s legacy products for the deployable mechanism of thrusters and reflectors.
The announcement comes as the UK, Canada and Japan endeavour to strengthen their trade relationships.
The contract will be added to MDA Space’s backlog in the second quarter of fiscal 2026.

Noah Note: MDA continues to secure the major wins. Blue Canyon, Radarsat Replacement and now J-Leo all coming in the same week. If you haven't jumped in MDA, now might be the time. A lot of it is gonna be missed in the space, which is often with space stuff on the private side. In the wider defence conversation, space can be in and out.
For MDA the pathway is clear. Blue Canyon not only provides a significant amount of new IP, including integrating several missing points in their supply chain including solar systems, GNS systems, batteries and a host of a very capable buses like the Saturn-400 but also positions MDA very handsomely for most future programs, esepcially those aligned to the two eyes ecosystem.
That will be missed, and I had a conversation about it when it happened. MDA through Blue Canyon is now positioned to offer Canada a native, two-eyes integrated manufacturer and integrator. That is a valued asset in an era of SHIELD and Golden Dome.
MDA now has the US and Canadian ecosystems, seperated but integrated through our shared continental requirememts that no one else in the Canadian sphere can replicate. That along with now a wide catalog of buses, new manufacturing capacity down south to supplement their existing Canadian production, and now two major contracts, including a significant Japanese contract, to help backstop them.
Funny also how the press release mentions the growing UK-Japan-Canada relationship. Funny how that works… Oh well, I won't blame MDA for being little teases. This is MDAs week. They got major win after major win, and thats something that will carry them for the next little while.
It's gonna be a wild ride from here. K-Leo is also a potential on the horizon, and exosting American SHIELD programs now become significantly more open with an Americam base to utilize.
Only up from here!
