Royal Canadian Navy announces new partmership with the Institut maritime du Québec
Press Release

The Royal Canadian Navy today announced that they had signed a new agreement with the Institut maritime du Québec aimed at creating a new transitional pathway for students looking to become Marine Systems Mechanical Technicians.
The navy released the following statement:
“Big news for future marine engineers in Québec!
On April 10, 2026, in Lévis, QC, our Navy and the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ) signed a new partnership to help students who want to build a career at sea.
Students in the Mechanical Engineering Technician program can now follow a customized path that prepares them to become Marine Systems Mechanical Technicians in the Navy. They’ll get hands-on training at sea, specialized classroom instruction, and access to Canadian Armed Forces paid education programs. Work is already underway to expand this opportunity to our other occupations at IMQ.
Graduates who join us can also request a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) so their diploma counts toward their career progression.”

This is the kind of smart partnership that gets top quality talent to consider a career in the military. Make it a good option, and make it easy to follow, and you will get plenty of people who are still trying to figure out what to do with their life. They might be willing to try something unconventional, at least.
