The way that I see it on what can be a more effective fighting air force:

. RCAF gets the full order of 88 Lockheed Martin F-35A stealth fighters

. RCAF gets a full order of desired number of Saab Globaleye AEW&C aircraft

Personally I think the L3 Harris/ Bombardier design South Korea is procuring would be more capable with its conformal 360 radar capabilities and could still be mostly manufactured in Canada. However the radar systems are from Israel and Carney has burnt that bridge I'm afraid so we'll prob end up with the Global eye. The lack of air refueling capability could be problematic.

Seems like a grand opportunity for a Defence Industrial Policy to facilitate competitive bidding with designated national champions proving base platforms ... like anyone can propose an AEWC system on any Bombardier platform they wish. Maybe Canada needs the extra legs of the Global 8000 along with AAR ... but SAAB, L3Harris, etc. can bid whatever integrated systems they want.

If other suppliers want to bid other planes like 737s, they should understand its at a disadvantage unless the Canadian platform is only marginally competitive.

I like the idea of using the larger 8000 but it won't have the air to air refueling either and it may not be able to land on the shorter airstrip the 6500 can to compensate. I could be wrong but worth researching. I think having a refueling arm installed should be a requirement first and then see if Bombardier can accommodate this on their proposal.

Disagree with the Poseiden MPA is a completely different aircraft. As a former MPA operator, guess I could agree. But the MPA is irrelevant in tomorrow's war, like "fighters", it is aimed at yesterday's war. Cancel that contract!

I asked this question in the Weekly Q&A but I'll ask here too. Given that NATO appears to be dropping out of the E-7 program will that influence our own AWACS project? And Yes...I don't get why people are fixated on the P-8...completely different platform.

I think it'll be a factor, not a deciding one, but it will certainly be a thought on peoples minds. There are other issues that will take precedent over it tbough.

Noah...maybe you should look into doing some writing for the G&M...it looks like they could use a dedicated Defense writer

By this stage im willing to license my content for free if it helps fix some of the coverage I've seen this week. When organizations like CTV are putting out less than a Noah Note? That's an issue.
