I'm confused, 2 announcements on the same day? What could it be? RFI for the corvettes?

Im leaning heavy reannouncement. Not out of the ordinary, but it is a surprise to me because I thought Steve was traveling with the PM, but it does add another factor to tomorrows hell to think about

More to add with that mental health bill!

Maybe the next tranche of projects being handled by the DIA?

Oh boy. Is it possible that they’re splitting the sub contract with Fuhr announcing a pacific kss-iii fleet and Carney announcing an Atlantic u212cd fleet. Can’t be…it just can’t be. Just throwing it out there. A dual announcement to announce the same thing just isn’t necessary. Less consequential announcements sure but something is definitely up. Maybe Tkms wins and Fuhr is announcing something with the Koreans as a consolation prize or vice versa. We shall see. Preparing myself to be shocked.

Could it be the same announcement just having representation on both coasts?

Noah's avatar

Very possible. Happening at the same time, but it's a surprise to me because I thiught Steve was going with the PM to NATO. So it caught me

We will all be on the edge of our seats that’s for sure!

From CBC reporting, it sounds like the simultaneous announcements by the PM and SoS Fuhr is to enable the news to be delivered directly to our Atlantic and Pacific fleets at the same time. There will likely, in my opinion, be sections of the speeches that directly apply to the respective commands and basing infrastructure.

Noah….if you don’t want to be spoiled today then stay away from all media sources until you watch the announcement. That includes here

So the G & M is stating that according to two unnamed sources TKMS is the winner. I would have thought it would be pretty restricted to who the winner to prevent this kind of thing happening!

Sssh this has all the drama of a good ole hockey deke...

If the PM goes to the Atlantic, and Fuhr goes to the Pacific, this makes me think the Atlantic sub contract (TKMS) has won.

A surprise to be sure….any chance it’s a second announcement to beef up Canada’s stock for the nato mtg….. either that or I wonder about a mixed fighter fleet announcement with no real specifics as to numbers….taking advantage of carneys announcement with the sub fallout.

If was anything air related I think the announcement would be made at an airbase not a naval base.

Bob Miller's avatar

You may be right, however given these aren’t quite normal times…my point was the gov’t may elect to use the timing to in effect get covering fire & media distraction to get people used to a mixed fleet without going into numbers. I was reffering to Fuhr’s announcement not the PM’s in Halifax.

Plausible. That would track with a Korean win and to begin the process of damage control as it relates to NATO. So many possibilities.

Bit of a faux pas, no?
