88 CF-35s and 100 CF-39s. The RCAF is baaack!

Would be WILD

Shame the River class is losing the Italian guns but it makes sense to uses what the Brits designed it to use.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a 76mm super rapid on the future corvette, even if its pure fantasy...

Noah's avatar

Never say never. We're leaving a lot to the yards when it comes to conceptualization

Con's avatar

Hell I'd take a lighter 76mm on the Rivers if it meant more VLS

I am particularly sad about the Lionfish RWS, it offers more capability than the Mk 38 and would have been a good upgrade for the AOP's as well.

Noah's avatar

Same. Lionfish was a great concept, but sadly with Vulcano gone it was only a matter of time. MK.38 mind you will do what you want 90% of the time, but man is Lionfish sweet

Con's avatar

Agreed. Or instead of MK38 we should install dual Bofors 40mm MK4s and upgrade AOPS to the same

40mm CTA from KNDS? Then we could have commonality with a bugger autocanon for Medium Cavalry vehicles?

Any rumour on the size of the fighter fleet and/or the split?

Noah's avatar

None I can say are accurate. Everyone has a different idea lol. Like much of the review, thats something few know

There was a rumour of 40 F-35 and up to 80 Gripen-e. Personally 60/60 would be a better option.

How significant was the weight savings moving back to MK45 from Vulcano? I'm surprised it would be that big of a difference between the two.

Any rumours on a path forward to have 32+ VLS?

Noah's avatar

There is about a 33% difference I believe? About 8-9 tons dependent of a difference. The 4-drum system also takes up a lot of internal space.

While this might help with VLS, I don't think it is necessarily for it. It might be, but there is also significant concerns about future growth room on future variants of the River-class. That also plays a large role

Kevin's avatar

Actually the weight difference is over 26000 pounds, which coincidentally is almost the weight difference of an 8 cell mk-41 strike length VLS system. Here's hoping that's the reason for the change.

Another great wrap up, thanks!

i feel like we might do the full 88 for the f-35 especially with CUSMA negotiations still around. not sure about how many gripen though

Listen…. All I want is F-35B’s and a carrier so we can make fun of Russia’s abysmal naval fleet lol
