CDSEA…that’s a mouthful. But at least it’s finally the operational EW capability that we have always needed. Sounds like it would just be a passive ISR platform. Perhaps with satellite coverage and CCAs with electronic attack (EA) it won’t be a Growler capability. EA is a tad risky since it gives your position away while masking that of your attackers. While I was among the few Canadians to graduate as a USAF EWO and flew the EW Voodoo, on the air staff we tried to give the Challenger a robust ELINT and ECM capability as possible, but more $ went into aircraft mods than into developing EW. There is a core of EW technical capability in the Ottawa area so I hope that the CDSEA can use the development money that is now available to make it happen. Geez, when I think of back then we established what was at first called the EW Systems and Training Project, only to be told that we had to take the warfare out of Electronic Warfare. So the project was called the Electronic Support and Training (EST) Project. Here we were in DND/CAF and we were being told that we couldn’t use the proper NATO terminology and we couldn’t use “Warfare” in a military organization or it wouldn’t be approved by PWPSC or TB!!
I didnt know much about the challengers until they announced they were replacing them, so this was really neat to read about. And you just need to call them CD "Sea" and it just roles off the tongue.
This makes me think that the RCAF will get the refueling probes engineered for the 6500, because the more airframe we operate, the lower per unit cost of developing it will be.
CDSEA = "See Dee See" kind of rolls of the tongue, actually. I would be thunderstruck if there weren't eventually a future development block of the platform, an 'advanced' iteration if you will. ACDSEA.
I remember folks being very excited for PRes LAV in Force 2025....
All I know is, with what infrastructure and what maintenance?
Don't get me wrong, I would love for at least half the PRes Light Infantry folks to be re-rolled to LAV borne (Mech yourself before you wreck yourself) but I think we might have to be satisfied by PRes Light Infantry that are Senator borne instead.
I'm excited that they are planning a continuous procurement plan for ACV-W, rather than some sort of giant one time purchase. It makes me happy to think we will be ready to replace worn out unit when they wear out, rather than after we restart a whole industry and go through the politics of selecting a whole new platform... And I am really excited that we will be investigating hybrid drivetrains, there is just so much potential there, and I don't want us to pick a design that we can build now, and wait until we eventually need to replace them to consider leveling up... And those numbers! Enough to make your mouth drool. They will be giving kiddies rides at the fair in them they will have so many ...
Agreed, great they are investigating hybrid-drive. I noticed that the Rheinmetall / UTV offering for the Domestic Arctic Mobility Enhancement project has a hybrid power train.

Brilliant!!!😜
Greg the LAV is here to stay yippee 🥳
PRes LAV dream still alive

That looks like a really neat unit! Thanks for sharing the link.
Are we likely to see the first new LAV orders this year?
30mm for the LAV & 35mm for MCAV makes sense to me
From what I can tell it will be one universal. Commonality and such. Argument for everyone going on the Mk44.
