I was thinking about DAME. It will be an interesting application of the Build, Partner, Buy framework in the DIS.
You have a Canadian owned company with their own design - Canadian IP (https://voyager.utvint.com/) vs 2 “partner” bids with Roshel (Canadian owned) licensing ST Engineering’s design and GDLS licensing BAE systems design.
If there are similar results in the evaluation UTV should be chosen.
We better hope not. An unproven piece of kit with limited civilian experience vs the Beowulf with decades of combat experience in all terrains and climates is a non-brainer for the troops on the ground. Both will be built in Canada by Canadians, Beowulf is the best bet here for the field force who will rely on these at the risk of death in frigid conditions.
This is where Build becomes tougher, we haven’t built in years and more importantly as a country we lack confidence in our ability to do so.
A Canadian owned company (partnered with Rheinmetall) with 30 years of experience and sales to over 500 organizations can build an Arctic capable mobility vehicle.
Obviously we don’t by an inferior product, as I said if evaluations are similar then it comes back to the DIS, how much do we support Canadian intellectual property and domestic supply chains? We shall see.
Will vastly expediting LUV and DAME open it up to risk of lawsuits à la NVG replacement? I want these announcements yesterday but Im worried itll get bounced back by the courts.
