Is there a tube-launched land attack missile available that could be integrated with the 212CD? Maybe the French MdcN? I might be wrong, but I thought the tube launched tomahawk was discontinued.

Way way back there was a piece on the 212cd that suggested there was maybe a 212 vls option (borrowing on the 218 design)…and never saw anything else on it after that. No idea if it was pie in the sky stuff or just wishful thinking. So now wondering there was a minimum tube requirement in the rfp.

Sorry, when I said 'tube' I meant torpedo tube. I was wondering if the 212CD could meet the land attack requirement with torpedo tube launched cruise missiles. The US used to make a torpedo tube launched Tomahawk, but I don't think it's in production anymore. I know France has a cruise missile they launch from their Suffren Class boats that is launched from the torpedo tubes, but I don't know what it would take to integrate it into the 212CD.

I think it's safe to say Canada won't be modifying the 212CD to add a VLS. This is going to be as "off the shelf" as possible. But I assume there is some way that the 212CD can meet the land-attack requirement.

Tubehawks have been out of production for over a decade. The UK maintains a stockpile. It is possible to restart it but it's expensive. Both the Dutch and Aussies explored it in the last year and came against it due to the cost and timelines.

Tyrfing is the GERNOR option, as we discussed a few weeks ago. It isnt cinfirmed for the Subs but I have it on good authority its in the plans. Issue is that its still a decade out at minimum with current timelines. Its also an early-stage paper design.

Ahh, thanks Noah. The Tyrfing is interesting, but I wasn't putting too much stock into a missile pretty early in its development. I was also assuming it would come mk41 and box launched first, with sub integration at *some point* in the future. But hey, if DND says that meets the requirement, then cool. Would be neat to see it on RCN surface ships at some point too.

Yep got it… the tube launched tomahawk isn’t produced any more as the dutch found out when they tried to buy some for there new subs being built. I mentioned vls on the 212 as tkms was trying to sell an ‘e’ version with an extra 10’ to the dutch. Noah says that doesn’t look like its in there pitch to us….but probably the only way they could get a vls & if land attack is now part of the RFP…who knows.

Yeah they're offering the base 212 CD. CDE had rumors of a VLS option, taken from the 218 concept but I have never seen proof of it wver offered to anyone, so at best it remains a concept.
