TKMS Signs Two Agreements with Indigenous Partners to Support the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project
Press Release + Noah Note

Kiel, March 2, 2026 – TKMS signed cooperation agreements with leading Indigenous organizations from across Canada, establishing a Pan-Canadian framework to advance Indigenous participation in support of Canada’s future submarine capability under the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).
The Indigenous partners of the first agreement are Songhees Development Corporation, Des Nedhe Group Defence, and Glooscap Ventures. Additionally, a second agreement has been signed with the Inuit Development Corporation Association to advance Arctic-based initiatives identified as associated opportunities to support Nation Building effort.
Both agreements establish structured cooperation to harness the industrial, economic, and cultural strengths of Indigenous partners throughout Canada. The parties intend to work together to define mechanisms that enable meaningful participation across industrial activities, workforce development, and long-term sustainment initiatives related to Canada’s submarine program.
“Indigenous partnership is fundamental and a top priority for TKMS,” said Rick Gerbrecht, Managing Director of TKMS Canada. “For TKMS, collaboration on equal terms with Indigenous partners is essential to building a credible, nationbuilding program for Canada’s submarine capability. The question is not whether to partner, but with whom. We are committed to long-term relationships based on trust, shared value creation, and measurable outcomes.”
Through both agreements, TKMS affirms its commitment to supporting reconciliation objectives while creating sustainable economic opportunities. The collaboration is intended to increase skilled employment opportunities, enhance domestic value creation, and foster durable economic benefits that contribute to the growth and expansion of Indigenous economies and labour forces across Canada.
Noah Note: A significant move on the Indigenous front. Securing support from both the Songhees Nation and Glooscap First Nation is a massove undertaking, and secures TKMS partners on both coasts to advance reconciliation efforts as part of CPSP. DNGD is obviously a major partmer to also get locked down.
DNGD is part of the Des Nedhe Group, whom represent over twenty indigenous companies across Canada. That includes people like Cedar Leaf Capital, JNE Welding, and Flatstone Construction. I for one welcome Indigenous participation in major projects.
Most significantly and surprising is the inclusion of the Inuit Development Corporation Association. They are by far not the name I expected to see here. Their inclusion is also welcome, and im curious to hear what has been discussed revolving their involvement.
No matter what it is, I applaud TKMS for taking a very heavy leap into their first Indigenous partnerships.
