Ukraine and Canada are working to strengthen air defense and support the production of Ukrainian drones
Press Release

Ukraine coordinates with Canada to support defense priorities. The focus is on air defense missiles, Ukrainian drones, and long-range ammunition. This was discussed during a conversation between Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Canadian Minister of National Defense David McGinty.
AIM-9 missiles for F-16
Mykhailo Fedorov thanked Canada for the AIM-9 missiles that Ukraine received for its F-16 fighters. This is the result of Canada's work with the logistical support of Belgium. Such missiles strengthen Ukrainian aviation and help shoot down Russian cruise missiles.
Ukraine is grateful to Canada and Belgium for practical assistance in time for a possible next attack.
PURL and PAC-3 are critical for ballistic defense
Mykhailo Fedorov informed the Canadian side about the implementation of Ukraine's AIR-LAND-ECONOMY defense strategy and the current needs of the Defense Forces.
An important area is air defense. Ballistic missiles remain one of the main challenges for Ukraine, so the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism and new contributions from partners are critically important.
The Ukrainian side has also appealed to Canada for support in the purchase of PAC-3 missiles through the JUMPSTART mechanism. This is currently one of the key areas for strengthening defense against air threats.
Ukrainian drones for the front
The parties discussed the importance of purchasing Ukrainian drones for the needs of the front.
Mykhailo Fedorov called on Canada to support Ukrainian production through the "Danish model" and other mechanisms. This allows resources to be directed to solutions that have already proven effective in combat conditions.
Ukraine and Canada also already have joint industrial projects that could strengthen both countries.
Supply of pickup trucks and long-range missiles
Separately, the parties examined the possibility of supplying a large number of diesel pickup trucks for the Defense Forces.
They also discussed the importance of long-range artillery shells and the possibility of directing funds to the Czech Initiative.

Canadian aid that makes an impact on the battlefield
Ukraine has received an important signal that Canada is ready to assist with critical Ukrainian defense priorities. It is important for Ukraine that partners' resources are directed to quality assistance that has a real impact on the battlefield.
Mykhailo Fedorov thanked Canada for its leadership, willingness to develop cooperation, and consistent support for Ukraine.
