Updating Mistake in "Minister Mcguinty announces new $1.4 billion Investment in Canada’s 155mm munition production"
Noah Note
Hello Everyone.
As you all know I value accuracy in my reporting to the best I can, and sometimes I do miss things. This is one of those cases. In the previous article in todays announcement I mentioned a lack of movememt on the previous attempt to establish a domestic source of artillery fuzes.
This was originally supposed to be awarded last year, however I assume the DIS and such delayed things in the process. I was obviously a bit taken back and curious to why no progress was seemingly made on this front today.
Low and behold, after checking Canadabuys it does seem like there was movement on fuzes. General Dynamics-OTS Canada was awarded a new $33,407,446.03 contract to establish a domestic manufacturing capability for Point Detonating Delay Artillery Fuzes (PDD Artillery Fuzes) for use with 105mm and 155mm High Explosive Projectiles.
Under the MSP GDOTS-C will provide the following:
90,000 PDD Artillery Fuzes, model PD602, from Junghans Defence (OEM)
A manufacturing level Technical Data Package (TDP) for PD602 under the condition that the OEM receives transfer authorization from the German government
A manufacturing license agreement (MLA) for PD602
an initial plan for the transition of knowledge and increasing Canadian content for the manufacture of PD602 in the future.
Sadly Noah, being a dumb boy sometimes, forgets that he ahould check sources before poating news on procurements. This is one of those cases and I do apologize for this error on my reporting.
Really this was less about GDOTS-C. They were always gonna be the prime on this. It was there's to run. The real news is that Junghans PD 602 was selected as part of the process. They weren't who I was tracking as of last year, and there apperence is… curious to me.
Isn't always nice when surprises appear? I had originally tracked Action but I guess that didn't work out. I guess I'll have a bit of digging to do huh? Either way the move has been made to establish a domestic fuze capacity.
However, I still don't know why it wasn't mentioned? Feels a bit weird to not bring it up considering that fuzes were another major missing component of the supply chain and would have fit well into today’s announcements. I don't quite understand why theynwere excluded here. I can't see it being worth much as it's own announcement.
Either way I wanted to mention this and offer my official applogy for messing up in the earlier announcement. Its important to me to acknowledge mistakes and clarify them as urgently as I possible can.
