Canada's Procurement of Lockheed Martin HIMARS Reinforces a Strong Industrial Partnership for a Secure, Interoperable Future

OTTAWA, Ontario, June 3, 2026 – The Canadian government has announced the purchase of 26 Lockheed Martin High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), associated munitions and a comprehensive ten-year industrial and economic plan, contributing to a North American defence industrial base that is secure and strong.
WHY IT MATTERS
HIMARS is a highly mobile, combat-proven system that fires precision munitions capable of accurately striking long-range targets. Transportable by C-130 and C-17 aircraft, it is rapidly deployable and interoperable with NATO allies, using NATO standard munitions like GMLRS and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM).
For Canada, HIMARS offers: Combat-proven precision and performance across multiple ranges; seamless integration into NATO and coalition operations; a clear modernization path with extended range munitions and digital upgrades; and industrial partnership opportunities to support domestic sustainment and sovereignty.
Canada’s procurement of HIMARS aligns with Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy, leveraging the Industrial and Technological Benefits policy to boost sovereign capability and match 100% of contract value with economic benefits for Canada’s defence industrial base.
Over 10 years, Lockheed Martin will invest in Canadian small and medium-sized businesses, research entities, and indigenous partners on projects such as advanced helicopter electro‑optics, clean‑energy dual‑use technology, a self‑contained UAV manufacturing system, and Arctic‑focused defence/commercial infrastructure, fostering export potential and national sovereignty.
This industrial plan is part of a broader effort designed to cultivate local talent and accelerate the transfer of advanced technical knowledge, supporting an allied defence industrial base that is secure and strong.
Lockheed Martin continues to meet or exceed delivery timelines for HIMARS launchers and is collaborating with the US Army and global partners to drive even faster deliveries, ensuring that Canada can meet their initial operating capability.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
Lockheed Martin is consistently meeting or exceeding delivery schedules for HIMARS launchers, partnering with the U.S. Army and international allies to accelerate shipments; HIMARS and M270 remain the only platforms capable of launching our next generation munitions—including Extended Range GMLRS and PrSM.
PrSM recently achieved its combat debut during Operation Epic Fury, showcasing a new deep‑strike capability; with export‑ready certification underway and a new framework agreement that will quadruple production capacity, the 500 km‑plus range PrSM will soon be available for allied forces.

Any chance of Lockheed setting up a PrSM or ATACMS production line in Canada?
It's more likely Lockheed/ Sikorsky is prepping for Canadian Helicopter replacement projects, while making the F-35 order look like a better deal at the same time.
