I don't have any knowledge of the actual discussions happening, but I would say that would be very unlikely. Canada's order volume for the ballistic missiles will be quite small (compared to a factory's output). We just don't have the scale to make it worth while. If Lockheed wants more production to fill other international orders, if would be much more efficient for them to expand US lines or build somewhere in Europe.
I share the desire for more domestic/soverign munitions production, but we can't do it for all (or even most) of the high-end systems. We just don't have the scale. Personally, I'd love to see us pick 1 or 2 high-end missiles to produce here. Something with large domestic order volumes and demand from our allies; ESSM perhaps. But who knows, I'm mostly speculating.
As low as Canadas personal purchases would be it would be another North American sourced manufacturing bump to refill US missle stocks as well as an easier sell from Canada to countries where US trade and tariff policies could be a hindrance. Just a thought. Also if Lockheed was to produce a similar type missle here under the guise of being completely new they could avoid the costly US foreign military sales tax applied to their customers purchase making it even more sellable.
I was thinking LM would be the ones considering building a production facility here because I wonder if they're also worried about the arc of Democracy in the United States and they want to hedge their bets.
It's more likely Lockheed/ Sikorsky is prepping for Canadian Helicopter replacement projects, while making the F-35 order look like a better deal at the same time.
This sounds like a great way to get a Far left or far right government elected , which ever one is more anti U.S. . The Libs are screwing themselves just like the pro U.S. Cons did .
