My understanding, at least last I heard a few weeks ago, was that MEDCAV was looking at tracked at this time though hardly set in stone obviously. It's still again in its infancy, so lots will change from the final proposal.
Ive also heard track is the preference for MEDCAV. My comment was aimed at Q25 about if the infantry would see anything tracked and ive heard no, theyll stay wheeled on LAVs.
Welcome to the wonderful world of complicated requirements and ever shifting narratives! I have had this same question before as well whenever I hear it.
So many people freaking out over F-35 fr absolutely no reason with either a current admin south of us or being genuine Saab enjoyers.
Mixed fleet concept is cool but why burden the training system with a “solution” that could end up like a paper weight (yes god damn right I’m saying paper weight) cuz we’ve overloaded our pilots.
Noah makes a excellent point, why bring the Gripen (don’t get me wrong the little guy is cool and would be awesome) in when by the time we’ve reached IOC will start to see early IOC of 6 Gen Fighters like GCAP starting to roll off the production line. And that’s only theorizing that you could recruit more people, train more people, hopefully don’t lose people in the training pipeline all in the span of something that should have at the very least happened back in 2016.
Let’s be realistic yea we could go for a mixed fighter fleet but if we committed to it DND, CAF, and RCAF would all argue for a 5 & 6 Gen Fighter Fleet.
Why would America need Canadian infrastructure or waters to take over Greenland ?
The capital is closer to Iceland than it is to their existing base on the other side of the island. They can just land some C-17s in Nukk and be done with it
I dont believe they are looking at tracked IFVs for the infantry. My understanding is that the MEDCAV project's scope is to equip the RCAC.

There is a separate LAV refresh though in ALAV.

Ah. My mistake! Forgot there was multiple MEDCAV questions this week lol
a tracked IFV is the opposite of concentrating tracked maintenance with the Leos

Case in point (see my previous comment): https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2026/01/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-directs-negotiations-to-adjust-imports-of-processed-critical-minerals-and-their-derivative-products-into-the-united-states/
I can understand that building a foundation and reinforcing it can help with stability in turbulent time.
At some point, hopefully soon, we need to take concrete and definitive actions to mitigate specific risks to our sovereignty before they materialize.
Some risk example:
USCG “Freedom of Operations” in the NW passage without Canadian permissions
US demands that CAD defense spending be made on US systems for “interoperability”
US veto over CAD trade deals with non-hemispheric nations
US approval over major foreign investments in CAD critical minerals
