The gist now has left the subject of trade to that of sovereignty. We’re at a whole level of animosity right now, by an order of magnitude.

Every country around the world would instantly think "if they will block critical defense sales to CANADA, they would be willing to do the same to us."

It would make US defense companies a national security risk overnight and be devastating to sales.

Trying to twist existing sales conditions to get unrelated trade capitulations would have a similar effect.
