Nicely said. I never understood the pushback about trying to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Like the Battle of Quebec it was existential to the existence of an independent Canada.

Perhaps it was due to inadequate communication or understanding of it’s importance. In general Canada needs to teach more Canadian history in school. I went to school in Albertan and I learned next to nothing about Canadian or Albertan history. In fact I most often heard Canadian history is boring.

“Commemorating these anniversaries is an act of resisting that slow march to forgetting.“ Bless you.

Nice reminder of that stormy night 250 years ago. The American assault collapsed quickly, and it did help secure a separate path for what became Canada. Canadian Heritage marks the 250th of the Invasion of Québec this year, calling it a key moment in our geopolitical history. They note how Canadien militia fought alongside British troops to hold the city during the siege. Those local defenders often get overlooked in the story.

Thanks for that important reminder about the militia.

At night. In a blizzard. Just like tonight. We shall remember them.

Damn, that is philosophical excellence on New Years Eve. Commemoration is vital to remember our shared past and to guide us in future.
