Basing the L3 option on the 6500 platform makes a huge amount of sense. I wonder if NATO would also be interested in this given that they are getting GlobalEye as well. Pretty soon Bombardier could have a whole family of defense offerings based on the 6500 😎
I've been playing around in AI with designing possible CDCs, and it seems that if you are going with a mid-range radar such as the Thales NS100, then 24 cells is the most optimal when paired with the ability to track and engage aerial threats and act as part of credible NATO escort force. Light Frigate Minifax indeed.
Noah, I'm beginning to think you're right about your worry that they will drop the number of RCDs and go with more CDCs. That said, would it be so bad to go with 12 RCDs if mixed with 24 CDCs, especially if you can get 3-4 CDCs for the price of 1 RCD?
If they were to drop the number of RCDs I think that would put pressure on to come up with a dedicated AAW version for Batch 2 (which I think they should do anyways mind you). I like your idea of 24 cells on the CDC.
Just saw an article in Army Recognition.com saying that TKMS is offering 4 212CD subs to Canada by 2036. To do this they will shift around 1 Norwegian and 1 German slot. If true this is a very interesting development. Personally I'm still all in on the KSS-III.
Korea is developing its own EA aircraft based on a commercial jet platform. Do you think we're in the market to partner on something like that, or buy an existing solution?
If they were to look at the peregrine as a sop to L3, would L3 make a bombardier version for us? How much extra work would that be? I thought L3 had a bombardier and a Gulfstream version of aires, so on the surface it seemed like a reasonable option.

I read somewhere that Bombardier is also looking at militarizing their Global 8000 platform to provide greater range and time on station.
That's interesting. I wonder if they made provisions up front to handle AAR.

To me, that indicates that TKMS knows they're trailing in the procurement stakes, and that delivery time is a key metric in the bid evaluation.
Yeah...for TKMS it's hard not to read the writing on the walls especially when there is a KSS-III sitting in Esquimalt.
